Cellphone apps are intentionally addictive

Every day, drivers cause car accidents because they are distracted by their cellphones. Many of these drivers lament their decisions after the fact. They knew that distracted driving was dangerous, but they chose to use the phone anyway.

One interesting thing to consider, though, is that some of them may not have intentionally made this choice. It was actually made for them. The social media apps that they use on their phone have been designed to be addictive. This means that even a driver who didn’t want to get distracted may be lured back in by the addiction.

Why were apps created this way?

The reason that apps are designed to be addictive is because the companies building those apps want people to use them for an extended period. Consider your own use of a social media site like Facebook or Twitter. As you read posts and engage with the site, you also see advertisements and promoted posts. The longer you’re on the app, the more ads you see and the more money those social media platforms generate.

Of course, even those who design these apps would say that people should not use them while driving. But the fact remains that the apps have been intentionally designed in such a way that they increase the odds of driver distraction. In this sense, due to the selling of advertisements, Americans are losing their lives and suffering injuries on the road day in and day out.

Have you been injured by a distracted driver? If so, be sure you know how to seek compensation for your medical bills and other expenses and damages. Having legal guidance can help.
